Be’er Yaacov Heritage Survey

Established in 1907, Be’er Yaacov has a rich and remarkable history that has shaped its growth into one of the fastest-growing cities in Israel. Originally home to 25 families who led an agricultural life, the settlement has since expanded dramatically, now home to around 33,000 residents. During the 1950s, a significant wave of immigration brought tens of thousands of Jews from Middle Eastern countries seeking a new place to call home. In response, the government swiftly built fast, low-cost, and efficient neighborhoods to house the growing population. This rapid expansion has contributed to Be’er Yaacov’s vibrant, diverse community, making it a truly unique and dynamic city within Israel’s landscape. Fifty years on, the city is once again looking at expansion possibilities: the Rambam and Herzl neighborhoods, defined by low residential density by today’s standards, offer great opportunities.

The identification and selection of a course of action with regard to the heritage layer was based on a comprehensive heritage survey conducted in the neighborhoods. During this survey, we located over a dozen sites of significant historic value. This meticulous process gave us a thorough understanding of the historical and cultural importance of these sites, enabling us to make well-informed decisions about their preservation and future use.
